Wainui River (Bay of Plenty)

The Wainui River is a river located in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows generally northeastward, emptying into the Bay of Plenty near Ohope. The river is relatively short and drains a catchment area primarily composed of hilly, forested land. Its waters are used for recreational activities such as fishing and swimming, although water quality can be impacted by agricultural runoff and other land use activities in the surrounding area. The river's name, "Wainui," is a Māori term often translated as "great water" or "large water."
