Peter Wilson (sport shooter)
Peter Wilson (born 15 September 1986) is a British sport shooter, specializing in the Double Trap event. He achieved his greatest success at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he won the gold medal in the Double Trap.
Wilson hails from Dorset, England. He initially trained as a sailor before transitioning to competitive shooting. He took up the Double Trap relatively late, focusing intensely on it in the years leading up to the London Olympics.
His victory at the 2012 Olympics was a significant moment for British shooting sports. He dominated the competition, setting a new Olympic record in qualification and then winning the final decisively. Following his Olympic triumph, he received recognition and awards for his achievement.
Wilson faced challenges after the 2012 Olympics. Changes in the regulations of Double Trap by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) meant that his favored shooting style was no longer optimal, and he struggled to adapt to the new rules. He attempted to transition to Trap shooting, but did not reach the same level of success as in Double Trap.
