Calcarius (sculptor)
Calcarius was a Roman sculptor active during the late Republican or early Imperial period. Almost nothing is known about his life. He is primarily known from a single surviving inscription on a marble base that once supported a statue. The inscription identifies him as the maker of the statue, but the statue itself is lost. The inscription provides valuable, though limited, insight into the artistic community and practices of the time. Further research and potential archaeological discoveries may shed more light on his life and works in the future. His style and artistic influences remain largely unknown due to the lack of extant works definitively attributed to him.
