Schoharie is a village located within the Town of Schoharie in Schoharie County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 871. The village is situated near the center of the town, adjacent to Schoharie Creek.

History

The village of Schoharie was first settled in the early 18th century by Palatine German immigrants. The area was historically important due to its strategic location along Schoharie Creek, a major waterway in the region. During the American Revolutionary War, the Schoharie Valley was a target of Loyalist and Native American raids. The Old Stone Fort, originally a Dutch Reformed Church, served as a vital defensive structure during this period and remains a prominent landmark in the village. The village was officially incorporated in 1838.
