Viesīte

Viesīte is a town in Latvia, located in the Selonia region (Sēlija), near the Lithuanian border. Administratively, it is part of Jēkabpils Municipality.

Viesīte was first mentioned in historical records in 1582. It officially became a town in 1928.

Historically, the town was connected to the Viesīte Narrow Gauge Railway, which played a significant role in the local economy. A portion of the railway is preserved as a tourist attraction.

The town's economy is primarily based on agriculture, forestry, and small businesses.

Viesīte has a population of approximately 2,000 residents. It features a museum dedicated to the narrow-gauge railway and local history. The surrounding area is characterized by forests and agricultural land.
