Fukuwarai

Fukuwarai is a traditional Japanese game, often played during New Year's celebrations. The name literally translates to "lucky laugh."

The game involves blindfolding a participant and having them place paper cut-out facial features (eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and sometimes other elements like glasses or moles) onto a blank face outline. The face outline is typically a large piece of paper placed on the floor or a table.

The humor of Fukuwarai arises from the often comical and distorted faces that result from the blindfolded placement of the features. There are no specific rules about where the features should go; the aim is simply to create a funny face.

The game is similar in concept to the Western game of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey." Fukuwarai is traditionally played by children, but adults also participate, particularly during New Year's parties. The game is considered a fun and lighthearted way to start the new year, and the resulting funny faces are thought to bring good luck and laughter.
