Robert Abbott (New South Wales politician)

Robert Abbott (1827 – 1901) was an Australian politician who served as a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly.

Born in England in 1827, Abbott emigrated to New South Wales. He entered politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the seat of Liverpool Plains in 1867. He served in this role until 1872. Subsequently, he represented the seat of Gunnedah from 1880 to 1885.

During his parliamentary career, Abbott was a strong advocate for rural interests and agricultural development. He held the position of Secretary for Mines in the ministry of Alexander Stuart from 1883 to 1885.

Abbott retired from politics in 1885 and died in 1901. He is remembered for his contributions to the development of the mining industry and for his representation of rural communities in the New South Wales parliament.
