Longbridge railway station (1915–1964)

Longbridge railway station (1915–1964) was a railway station serving the Longbridge area of Birmingham, England, between 1915 and 1964. It was situated on the Midland Railway's (later London, Midland and Scottish Railway's) Birmingham West Suburban Railway, a line which runs southwest from Birmingham New Street.

The station was opened on 14 June 1915 to serve the expanding Austin Motor Company factory in the area, which had been significantly boosted by wartime production. It provided a convenient transport link for the factory's workforce. The station was located close to the main factory entrance.

Longbridge station had two platforms and basic facilities, including a station building. Services were primarily local passenger trains operating between Birmingham and Redditch or Bromsgrove.

The station closed to passengers on 6 July 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts, a program of railway rationalisation across the United Kingdom. The closure was attributed to declining passenger numbers and the increasing availability of alternative transport options, particularly buses and private cars.

Although the station itself is now closed, the line remains open and is used by passenger services operated by West Midlands Railway. A new Longbridge station, located slightly further north, opened in 1978 to serve the redeveloped Longbridge area. Evidence of the original 1915 station is now largely gone, though some remnants of the platforms may be visible to observant passengers on passing trains.
