Mike Skinner (musician)
Mike Skinner (born 27 November 1978) is an English rapper, musician, and producer, best known for his work as the frontman of the music project The Streets.
Skinner's work with The Streets, particularly the seminal album Original Pirate Material (2002), is noted for its innovative blend of garage music, hip hop, and spoken-word lyrics that captured the everyday experiences of working-class British youth. He is celebrated for his observational storytelling, lyrical wit, and distinct vocal delivery.
After releasing five studio albums as The Streets, Skinner retired the moniker in 2011. He has since pursued a variety of projects, including DJing, producing music for other artists, writing and directing films, and running record labels. He has also continued to release music under his own name and as The Darker the Shadow the Brighter the Light, a project accompanying his feature film debut.
