Metro Manila (film)

Metro Manila is a 2013 British crime drama film directed by Sean Ellis. The film is set in Manila, Philippines, and follows the story of Oscar Ramirez (Jake Macapagal), a rice farmer who, along with his family, moves to the sprawling metropolis of Manila in search of a better life. Finding it difficult to make ends meet, Oscar accepts a job as an armored car driver, unknowingly becoming entangled in a dangerous world of corruption and deceit.

The film explores themes of poverty, exploitation, and the challenges of survival in a rapidly urbanizing society. It is notable for its use of Filipino actors and filming locations, providing an authentic portrayal of life in Manila.

Metro Manila premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Audience Award. It also received critical acclaim for its direction, performances, and social commentary.
