Spartak (Moscow Metro)
Spartak is a station on the Moscow Metro's Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line (Line 7). It is located in the Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo District of Northwestern Administrative Okrug, Moscow, Russia. The station opened on August 27, 2014, significantly improving transport accessibility to the Otkrytie Arena, home stadium of the FC Spartak Moscow football club.
The initial construction of the station shell was completed in 1975 as part of the "Volokolamskaya" (now "Spartak") depot service branch. At that time, the area was largely undeveloped and deemed to have insufficient passenger traffic to warrant a working station. The structure was therefore preserved as a reserve station for future development.
The revival of the station project was directly linked to the construction of the Otkrytie Arena in the early 2010s. The need for a dedicated metro stop to serve large crowds attending football matches and other events at the stadium provided the impetus for completing the station.
The design of Spartak station features a standard two-platform, pillar-trispan structure. The platform design prominently features the red and white colors of FC Spartak Moscow, with red marble pillars and white marble walls. This reflects the station's close association with the football club and serves as a landmark for fans visiting the arena.
The station's opening significantly eased congestion on other nearby metro lines and surface transportation during major events at the Otkrytie Arena. It has become an integral part of the transportation infrastructure serving the stadium and the surrounding area.
