Vinyl (2012 film)
Vinyl is a 2012 British mockumentary film directed by Sara Sugarman and starring Phil Daniels, Jamie Blackley, and Keith Allen. The film is inspired by the true story of Mike Peters, lead singer of the Welsh rock band The Alarm, who in 2004, frustrated by the music industry's ageism and bias against established artists, re-recorded his 1983 hit "Sixty Eight Guns" under the guise of a fictitious teenage band called The Poppy Fields. He then attempted to get it played on radio, successfully fooling DJs and music executives who praised the track. The film follows the fictionalized version of this story, exploring themes of ageism, the music industry, and the pursuit of authenticity in art. It received mixed reviews upon release.
