Melungtse
Melungtse (also known as Menlungtse or Mount Menlungtse) is a mountain in the Himalayas on the border between Tibet (China) and Nepal. It is located in the Rolwaling Himal, a relatively isolated subrange of the Himalayas. Melungtse is notable for its steep, icy faces and technical climbing challenges.
The mountain's summit is reported to be around 7,181 meters (23,560 feet) high, though different sources cite slightly different figures. The mountain's location and difficult access contributed to its late exploration and attempted ascents.
Significant climbing expeditions have targeted Melungtse, though successes have been relatively limited. The difficult terrain and weather conditions make it a formidable mountaineering objective. Its unclimbed east face has particularly garnered attention in the climbing community.
In addition to its mountaineering significance, the area surrounding Melungtse holds cultural importance for local populations in Tibet and Nepal. The mountain is sometimes considered sacred.
