Khorma
Khorma, also spelled Khurma, is the Arabic and Persian word for date, the fruit of the date palm tree ( Phoenix dactylifera). Dates are a staple food in many Middle Eastern and North African countries, and are cultivated in warm climates worldwide. Khorma is generally used to refer to the dried or semi-dried form of the fruit, which is commonly eaten as a snack, a dessert, or used in cooking.
Dates, including khorma, are known for their high sugar content, dietary fiber, and various vitamins and minerals. They are often consumed during Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, to break the daily fast due to their readily available energy.
Different varieties of dates exist, and the term "khorma" can be used to encompass them all or sometimes be used to specify certain types depending on regional usage. The preparation and consumption of khorma are deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of the regions where it is prevalent.
