Soldier's Home (film)
Soldier's Home is a 1977 American short film directed by Robert Young. It is based on the 1925 short story of the same name by Ernest Hemingway. The film stars Richard Backus as Harold Krebs, a young Marine returning to his small-town Oklahoma home after serving in World War I.
The film depicts Krebs' struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and his difficulty reintegrating into civilian life. He finds himself alienated from his family and community, unable to connect with them or share his experiences. The film explores themes of disillusionment, the psychological effects of war, and the challenges faced by returning veterans.
While relatively short, Soldier's Home is a critically acclaimed and faithful adaptation of Hemingway's story. It effectively portrays the emotional distance and isolation experienced by Krebs and the long-lasting impact of war on his psyche.
