Bataysk

Bataysk is a city in Rostov Oblast, Russia, located near the mouth of the Koisug River, a tributary of the Don River, about 15 kilometers (9 mi) south of Rostov-on-Don. It is part of the Rostov-on-Don metropolitan area.

Bataysk was founded in 1769 as a settlement associated with a post station on the road connecting Rostov-on-Don to the Caucasus. The area experienced significant growth following the construction of the Rostov-Vladikavkaz railway in the late 19th century, which made Bataysk a major railway junction.

The city's economy is primarily based on transportation, manufacturing, and agriculture. Its strategic location makes it an important transportation hub. It also hosts various industrial enterprises.

Administratively, Bataysk is incorporated as a city under oblast jurisdiction. It functions as the administrative center of Bataysky District, although it is administratively separate from it. The population of Bataysk is significant, making it one of the larger cities in Rostov Oblast.
