The Island on Bird Street (film)
The Island on Bird Street is a 1997 British-Danish-German historical drama film directed by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen. It is based on the award-winning novel of the same name by Uri Orlev. The film tells the story of Alex, an 11-year-old Jewish boy in Poland during World War II. After his father is taken away by the Nazis, Alex hides in the ruins of the Warsaw Ghetto, surviving on his wits and resourcefulness while awaiting his father's return. He builds a secret hideout in a bombed-out building on Bird Street and uses his knowledge of the city to evade capture and find food.
