Lia Cirio
Lia Cirio (born April 17, 1986, in Manhuaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil) is a Brazilian-American ballet dancer. She is a principal dancer with the Boston Ballet.
Cirio began her formal ballet training at the Centro de Dança in Minas Gerais. She moved to New York City and trained at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. In 2004, she joined the Boston Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet. She was promoted to second soloist in 2006, soloist in 2007, and principal dancer in 2009.
As a principal dancer with the Boston Ballet, Cirio has performed leading roles in a wide range of classical and contemporary ballets. Her repertoire includes roles in works by George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Twyla Tharp, as well as classical ballets such as Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, and Romeo and Juliet. She has also originated roles in new works by contemporary choreographers.
Cirio has received critical acclaim for her technical proficiency, musicality, and dramatic interpretation. She has been featured in numerous dance publications and has performed as a guest artist with ballet companies around the world. She is known for her versatility and ability to adapt to a variety of choreographic styles.
