St. Helens (film)
St. Helens is a 1981 American historical drama film directed by Ernest Pintoff. It dramatizes the events leading up to and including the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state. The film focuses primarily on the lives of several characters living in the area, including Harry R. Truman, the owner of the Mount St. Helens Lodge, and the geologist David A. Johnston. The film explores the growing geological evidence of the impending eruption and the tensions between the scientists trying to warn the public and the residents reluctant to leave their homes and livelihoods. It stars Art Carney as Harry Truman, and David Huffman as David Johnston. The film received mixed reviews upon its release.
