Marsaz
Marsaz is a white grape variety primarily grown in the Rhône Valley region of France. It is one of the six white grapes permitted in the Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Rhône Villages appellations. It is also used to produce varietal wines in certain areas.
Characteristics:
Marsaz grapes are known for their aromatic profile, which can include notes of apricot, white flowers, and almonds. The wines produced from Marsaz are typically dry, full-bodied, and can have a rich, oily texture. They often possess good acidity and aging potential.
Viticulture:
Marsaz is a relatively low-yielding grape variety. It is susceptible to various diseases and requires careful vineyard management to ensure quality.
Regional Significance:
While used in the Côtes du Rhône blend, Marsaz is more highly regarded in the smaller Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph appellations, where it can be bottled as a single-varietal wine or blended with Roussanne and/or Viognier.
Synonyms:
Marsaz is not widely known by other synonyms.
