Witness (American band)

Witness was an American Christian rock band formed in 1986. The band was known for its blend of hard rock, melodic vocals, and lyrics that dealt with faith and social issues. They were initially signed to Frontline Records.

The original lineup consisted of Doug Pinnick (bass, vocals), Phil Keaggy (guitar, vocals), Rex Carroll (guitar), and Gene Eugene (keyboards, vocals). Each member had established careers prior to forming Witness. Pinnick was primarily known for his work with King's X, Keaggy had a prolific solo career and extensive session work, Carroll was the guitarist for Whitecross, and Eugene fronted Adam Again and produced numerous Christian artists.

Witness released a self-titled album in 1988. The album featured tracks with diverse influences, highlighting each member's distinct musical style. Despite the pedigree of its members and generally positive critical reception, Witness proved to be a short-lived project. The demands of their individual careers made it difficult to maintain the band, and they disbanded shortly after the release of their debut album.

While their output was limited to a single record, Witness is remembered for the talent and experience of its members and its contribution to the landscape of Christian rock music. The album remains a sought-after item by collectors and fans of each musician's broader work.
