Zog (children's book)

Zog is a popular children's picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Published in 2010, the story follows a keen but accident-prone young dragon named Zog as he attends Dragon School. He learns various dragon skills, such as flying, breathing fire, and capturing princesses.

Each year at Dragon School, Zog faces challenges that he struggles to overcome. He is consistently helped by a young girl who poses as a princess but is revealed to be a doctor named Pearl. She bandages his bumps and scrapes and offers encouragement.

The story progresses through Zog's years at school, culminating in a final test where he must capture a princess. Pearl, wanting to avoid capture, eventually convinces Zog that she would rather be a doctor than a princess. They decide to become a flying doctor team, using Zog's flying abilities to reach those in need.

Zog is known for its rhyming text, engaging illustrations, and themes of friendship, perseverance, and challenging gender stereotypes. It has been adapted into an animated short film produced by Magic Light Pictures. The book has also spawned a sequel, Zog and the Flying Doctors.
