Euromast

The Euromast is a landmark observation tower in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Designed by Hugh Maaskant, it was constructed between 1958 and 1960 and originally stood at a height of 101 meters (331 feet). It was specifically built for the 1960 Floriade, an international horticultural exhibition.

Over time, its height was extended. In 1970, the Space Tower was added to the top, bringing the total height to 185 meters (607 feet). This addition features a rotating glass elevator that ascends to the top, providing panoramic views of Rotterdam and its surroundings, including the harbor and (on clear days) sights as far as Belgium and Germany.

The Euromast remains a popular tourist attraction, offering not only observation decks but also a restaurant and the possibility of abseiling (rappelling) down the tower for adventurous visitors. It is a significant symbol of Rotterdam's post-war reconstruction and a testament to the city's architectural ambition. It is currently the highest building accessible to the public in the Netherlands, a distinction it shares with other structures given height is calculated differently depending on the criteria. The tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
