Lubu language

The Lubu language is a critically endangered, Austroasiatic language spoken by the Lubu people of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is primarily found in the provinces of North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi. Lubu is part of the Aslian branch of Austroasiatic languages, which also includes languages spoken in Malaysia and Thailand.

Lubu is characterized by its unique phonology and grammar, distinguishing it from the more widely spoken Malay language in the region. It traditionally relies on oral transmission, leading to variations across different Lubu communities. Documentation of the language is limited, posing challenges to language preservation and revitalization efforts. The increasing use of Malay and other dominant languages threatens the continued vitality of Lubu.
