HMS Sparrow (1796)
HMS Sparrow was a British Royal Navy 16-gun ship sloop, launched in 1796. She was built by John Dudman at Deptford Wharf. Her career was relatively short, primarily serving during the French Revolutionary Wars.
Sparrow participated in various convoy escort duties and patrols in the English Channel and the North Sea. She was also involved in the interception of enemy privateers and merchant vessels.
Details regarding specific engagements or captures made by Sparrow are sparsely documented. However, vessels of her class were frequently employed in suppressing coastal smuggling and protecting British trade routes.
Sparrow's ultimate fate is unclear. Navy records indicate she may have been wrecked or lost at sea before 1805. Further research of Admiralty records would be required to definitively determine her end.
