North School (Kensington, New Hampshire)

The North School is a historic one-room schoolhouse located in Kensington, New Hampshire. Built in 1836, it served as a public school for the northern district of Kensington until 1949. The building is a simple, wood-frame structure with a gable roof and clapboard siding. It features a single classroom with large windows providing natural light.

Historically, the North School educated students of various ages and grade levels, typical of the one-room schoolhouse model. A single teacher was responsible for all instruction. The curriculum included reading, writing, arithmetic, and geography, among other subjects.

The North School is now maintained by the Kensington Historical Society and is occasionally open to the public for educational programs and historical demonstrations. It stands as a preserved example of early education in rural New Hampshire. The building is located on North Road in Kensington.
