Ribnovo
Ribnovo is a village in southwestern Bulgaria, part of the Blagoevgrad Province. It is situated in the Rhodope Mountains, in the municipality of Garmen. Ribnovo is known for its unique cultural traditions, particularly the traditional weddings practiced by the local Pomak population, who are Bulgarian-speaking Muslims. These weddings are elaborate, multi-day events featuring distinctive rituals, costumes, and music, attracting tourists and researchers interested in ethnographic studies. The village also faces challenges related to modernization and preservation of its cultural heritage. Economically, Ribnovo relies on agriculture, livestock breeding, and increasingly, tourism. The architecture of the village is characterized by traditional Rhodopean houses.
