Maria (1947 film)
Maria is a 1947 Mexican drama film directed by Tito Davison and starring Fernando Rey, Esther Fernández, and Alicia Palacios. The film is based on the novel María by Colombian writer Jorge Isaacs. The story is a tragic romance set in 19th-century Colombia, revolving around the relationship between María, a young woman suffering from epilepsy, and her cousin Efraín. The film explores themes of love, loss, illness, and social class. The film was produced by Oro Films and distributed by Películas Mexicanas. It is considered a classic of Mexican cinema, although less known internationally than other films from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.
