Pela (band)
Pela was an English indie rock band, formed in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in 2005. The band's core members were vocalist and guitarist Simon Petty, guitarist Tom Fidler, bassist Olly Hite, and drummer Rob Lewis. While the lineup fluctuated throughout their career, these members remained relatively constant.
Pela gained recognition for their emotionally charged and lyrically driven songs, often compared to bands like The National and Elbow. Their sound incorporated elements of alternative rock, folk, and post-punk, characterized by Petty's distinctive vocals and introspective songwriting.
The band released two studio albums: We Are the Brave in 2007 and The Alphabet in 2009. We Are the Brave was particularly well-received, earning critical acclaim and helping to establish Pela's fanbase. They toured extensively, playing numerous festivals and headline shows both in the UK and internationally.
Despite their initial success and critical praise, Pela disbanded in 2009, shortly after the release of The Alphabet. Simon Petty pursued a solo career, releasing music under his own name and with other projects. The other members also continued to be involved in various musical endeavors. While Pela's time as a band was relatively short, their music left a lasting impression on the indie rock scene.
