Lez (river)
The Lez is a coastal river in the Hérault département of southern France. It is approximately 29.6 kilometers (18.4 miles) long. Its source is near Saint-Bauzille-de-Montmel, and it flows generally southeast, passing through the city of Montpellier before discharging into the Mediterranean Sea at Lattes. The river's course has been significantly altered over time, particularly within Montpellier, due to urbanization and infrastructure development. It is known for its relatively small size and intermittent flow patterns, with periods of low water during the summer months. The Lez river's watershed plays a crucial role in the local ecosystem and water management of the Montpellier area.
