Savitri (1937 film)
Savitri is a 1937 Indian Hindi-language historical drama film directed by Franz Osten. The film is based on the mythological tale of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata. Starring Damuanna Malvankar and Shobhana Samarth in the titular roles, it depicts Savitri's devotion and cleverness in saving her husband, Satyavan, from Yama, the god of death. The film was produced by Himanshu Rai for Bombay Talkies. It featured music by Saraswati Devi and lyrics by J. S. Kashyap. Savitri was one of the early successful films for both Shobhana Samarth and Bombay Talkies, contributing significantly to their recognition and establishing a foundation for their future endeavors in the Indian film industry.
