Leslie Combs (soldier and politician)

Leslie Combs (November 28, 1793 – August 22, 1881) was an American soldier, lawyer, and politician from Kentucky. He served in the War of 1812, distinguished himself for bravery, and rose to the rank of captain. After the war, Combs practiced law and became a prominent figure in Kentucky politics, serving multiple terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives and the Kentucky State Senate. He was a staunch Whig, later a Republican, and an advocate for internal improvements, particularly railroads. Combs was known for his eloquent speeches and his strong Unionist stance during the secession crisis leading up to the Civil War.
