Burmarsh

Burmarsh is a village and civil parish in the Folkestone and Hythe district of Kent, England. It is located on the Romney Marsh, approximately 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Hythe.

The name "Burmarsh" is derived from the Old English burh-mersc, meaning "fortified marsh" or "marsh near a fort". This suggests the presence of some type of defensive structure in the area during Anglo-Saxon times.

Historically, the economy of Burmarsh was largely agricultural, reflecting its location on the fertile Romney Marsh. Sheep farming and arable crops have been important activities. The village's proximity to the coast also meant that fishing and other maritime activities played a role in the lives of some residents.

St. Mary's Church is the parish church of Burmarsh. It is a medieval building, largely dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries, with some earlier Norman features. The church is a Grade I listed building.

The village is relatively small and rural, with a population that has remained fairly stable over recent decades. Burmarsh benefits from its tranquil setting and proximity to larger towns such as Hythe and Folkestone. Transport links include local roads and bus services.
