Tom Higgins (Canadian football)

Tom Higgins (born September 19, 1954) is a former professional Canadian football coach, general manager, and player. He had a lengthy career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), notable for both on-field and off-field contributions.

Higgins played college football at the University of Illinois, and later in the CFL as a linebacker for the Calgary Stampeders from 1977 to 1978.

His coaching career began at his alma mater, Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California. He then moved into the CFL, holding various coaching positions including:

  • Calgary Stampeders: Defensive Coordinator, Head Coach (1995-2004). He led the Stampeders to a Grey Cup victory in 1998.

  • Edmonton Eskimos: Head Coach (2005-2006).

  • Calgary Stampeders: General Manager (2004).

  • Montreal Alouettes: Head Coach (2014-2015).

Higgins also served as the CFL's Senior Vice President of Football Operations and Officiating from 2008 to 2013.

Throughout his career, Higgins was known for his extensive knowledge of the game, dedication, and leadership qualities. He holds a respected position within Canadian football history.
