ETECSA

ETECSA (Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A.) is the state-owned telecommunications company in Cuba. It holds a monopoly over most telecommunications services within the country, including fixed-line telephony, mobile telephony, internet access, and public Wi-Fi hotspots.

ETECSA was formed in 1994 as a joint venture with Mexican telecommunications company Grupo Domos. The Cuban government later acquired full ownership.

Due to the United States embargo against Cuba, ETECSA has faced challenges in procuring equipment and infrastructure necessary to expand and modernize its services. While the company has made progress in increasing internet access, particularly through public Wi-Fi hotspots and mobile data, connectivity levels remain significantly lower than in many other countries.
