Pop (American TV channel)
Pop is an American basic cable and satellite television network owned by Paramount Global through its CBS Entertainment Group division. It is a general entertainment channel targeted towards younger adults, primarily carrying reality television, reruns of popular television series, and original scripted programming.
Originally launched on January 1, 1981, as The Nashville Network (TNN), it focused on country music and lifestyle programming. Over the years, its format shifted. In September 2000, TNN was rebranded as The National Network, adopting a more general entertainment approach aimed at a male audience. This included programming such as professional wrestling (WWE Raw) and action-oriented shows.
In 2003, the network was renamed Spike TV, further solidifying its focus on male-oriented programming with reality shows, action series, and video game-related content. Spike TV was known for its edgier and more provocative programming choices.
On January 14, 2015, Spike TV was rebranded as Pop. This change reflected a strategic shift toward a broader, more female-inclusive audience with a focus on pop culture and entertainment. The rebranding saw an increased emphasis on scripted comedy and reality series, often featuring celebrities and social media personalities. As part of the transition, CBS Corporation (now Paramount Global) took over full operational control of the channel.
