2nd Dragoon Regiment (Denmark)
The 2nd Dragoon Regiment (Danish: 2. Dragonregiment) was a cavalry regiment of the Royal Danish Army. It was originally formed in 1670 and dissolved on 31 December 2005. Throughout its history, the regiment was involved in numerous conflicts, including the Scanian War, the Great Northern War, the Napoleonic Wars, and the Second Schleswig War.
The regiment’s primary role was reconnaissance and security, often operating on the flanks of larger formations. While primarily a mounted unit throughout much of its history, the regiment transitioned to mechanized infantry and reconnaissance roles in the 20th century, utilizing armored vehicles and other modern equipment.
Over the centuries, the 2nd Dragoon Regiment was stationed at various garrisons throughout Denmark, including locations in Jutland and Zealand. Its contributions to the Danish military earned it a distinguished reputation and several battle honors. The disbandment of the regiment in 2005 was part of a broader restructuring of the Danish armed forces. While the regiment itself no longer exists, its traditions and history are maintained through veteran associations and historical societies.
