Rukuhia

Rukuhia is a rural community located in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Hamilton. Rukuhia is predominantly an agricultural area, known for its dairy farming and cropping activities.

The name "Rukuhia" is of Māori origin, although its exact meaning is debated. Some interpretations suggest it refers to a place of gathering or a specific type of native fern.

During World War II, Rukuhia was the site of a significant Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) base, RNZAF Base Rukuhia. After the war, the base was converted into an industrial complex and has since been used for various purposes, including aircraft storage and dismantling.

Rukuhia is part of the Waipa District. It contains a small number of local businesses and services catering to the surrounding rural population. The community also has a local primary school.

The area has seen increasing residential development in recent years, driven by its proximity to Hamilton and Cambridge.
