Anian (bishop of Bangor)

Anian (died 1268) was a medieval Bishop of Bangor. He was consecrated in 1236 and served until his death in 1268. His episcopate coincided with a turbulent period in Welsh history, marked by the ongoing conflicts between the Welsh princes and the English Crown. He is noted for his efforts to defend the rights and properties of the Church in the face of both secular and ecclesiastical challenges. Anian is also credited with overseeing the construction or significant renovation of Bangor Cathedral. He was succeeded as Bishop of Bangor by Richard.
