Dean (film)

Dean is a 2016 American comedy-drama film written, directed by, and starring Demetri Martin. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2016, winning the award for Best Narrative Feature.

The film follows Dean (Demetri Martin), a New York illustrator grieving the recent death of his mother. His father, Robert (Kevin Kline), a widower and former engineer, is attempting to sell the family home. While Robert becomes involved with a new woman, Dean travels to Los Angeles to avoid dealing with his emotions and possibly salvage a failed romance. He meets Nicky (Gillian Jacobs) and their connection provides both of them with a new perspective on their lives.

The film explores themes of grief, loss, and finding new relationships while navigating personal growth. It is characterized by Martin's signature deadpan humor and introspective storytelling.
