David Bowen (pathologist)

David Bowen (1924 - 2011) was a Welsh pathologist known for his contributions to the understanding of skin cancer, particularly melanoma. He qualified in medicine from the Welsh National School of Medicine in Cardiff in 1948. He spent much of his career at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he conducted research and developed diagnostic techniques for skin tumors. Bowen is perhaps best known for his meticulous clinicopathological descriptions and the recognition of distinct subtypes of skin cancer. His work on pre-invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the skin led to the eponym "Bowen's disease" being associated with this condition. He authored numerous publications and contributed significantly to the field of dermatopathology.
