Ed Bishop

Ed Bishop (born Emilius Edimundus Bishop, June 11, 1932 – June 8, 2005) was an American actor best known for his role as Commander Ed Straker in the British science fiction television series UFO.

Bishop was born in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the United States Army before pursuing an acting career. He moved to the United Kingdom in the late 1950s and remained there for the rest of his life.

In addition to UFO, Bishop appeared in numerous British television shows and films, including Doctor Who, The Saint, Department S, The Protectors, The Professionals, Whoops Apocalypse, The Bill, Lovejoy, Minder, Jonathan Creek, and the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. He also provided voice work for radio dramas and commercials.

Bishop was married three times. He died of a chest infection three days before his 73rd birthday.
