Boys Don't Cry (band)

Boys Don't Cry were a British new wave band formed in 1979. They are best known for their 1980 single "I Wanna Be a Cowboy," which reached the Top 20 in both the UK and the United States.

The band was formed by guitarist and vocalist Nick Richards, after he left his previous band, The Lurkers. Other original members included Brian Chatton (keyboards), Mark Smith (bass), and Alan Grice (drums).

Following the success of "I Wanna Be a Cowboy," Boys Don't Cry released their self-titled debut album in 1980. The album featured a mix of new wave and pop songs but failed to achieve the same level of commercial success as their hit single.

The band continued to release singles and tour throughout the early 1980s, but internal tensions and changing musical trends led to their eventual disbandment. Several lineup changes occurred during their career.

While they ultimately faded from mainstream attention, "I Wanna Be a Cowboy" remains a popular song, often appearing on 1980s-themed compilations and radio stations.
