Månafossen
Månafossen is a waterfall located in Rogaland county, Norway, specifically in the municipality of Gjesdal. It is one of the highest waterfalls in Norway, with a free fall of approximately 92 meters (302 feet). The waterfall is formed by the river Månaåna, which originates from the Mån lakes located further up the mountain.
The falls are a popular tourist destination, accessible via a marked but steep and somewhat challenging hiking trail from the E39 highway near the village of Mån. The hike to the base of the waterfall typically takes around 20-30 minutes and offers views of the surrounding landscape.
Visitors should exercise caution when hiking to Månafossen, particularly during or after rainfall, as the trail can become slippery. The area surrounding the waterfall is known for its lush vegetation, supported by the moist environment created by the spray from the falls.
Near Månafossen, one can also find the historic farm of Mån, which provides insight into the agricultural history of the region.
