Poinsot (crater)

Poinsot is a lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It lies to the northwest of the larger crater Milne, and southeast of the crater Bobillier.

The rim of Poinsot is moderately eroded, with several small craterlets lying along the edge. The interior floor is relatively level, with a few minor impacts. The crater displays a somewhat irregular outer rim, but is generally circular. It does not possess a central peak.

Poinsot lies within the Dirichlet-Jackson Basin.

The crater is named after French mathematician Louis Poinsot.
