Karen McDonald (politician)

Karen McDonald is an American politician and attorney serving as the Oakland County Prosecutor in Michigan.

McDonald graduated from Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oakland University. She received her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School.

Prior to serving as Oakland County Prosecutor, McDonald was a member of the Michigan State Senate, representing the 27th district from 2015 to 2020. Before her time in the Senate, she served as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing the 71st district from 2011 to 2014.

McDonald was elected as Oakland County Prosecutor in November 2020, succeeding Jessica Cooper. As Prosecutor, she oversees the prosecution of criminal cases within Oakland County. A notable case under her tenure is the prosecution related to the Oxford High School shooting in November 2021, where she charged the shooter and his parents.

McDonald is a member of the Democratic Party.
