Number 4 (album)

Number 4 is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Stone Temple Pilots, released on October 26, 1999, by Atlantic Records. It is noted for its more hard rock and heavy metal oriented sound compared to the band's previous albums, a stylistic shift attributed to the influence of producer Brendan O'Brien.

The album spawned several singles, including "Down," "Sour Girl," and "Church on Tuesday." "Down" was particularly successful, topping the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. "Sour Girl," featuring backing vocals by Stephanie Eitel of the band Sleater-Kinney, also received significant airplay and is recognizable for its music video featuring Sarah Silverman.

Number 4 was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album's themes explore darker aspects of human experience, and it is considered by some to be a reflection of the personal struggles faced by the band members during that period, particularly vocalist Scott Weiland.
