Kök (band)

Kök was a British jazz-funk band active in the mid-1970s. Formed in 1974 by keyboardist Alan Hawkshaw and vocalist Frankie Collins, the band also included guitarist Jim Mullen, bassist Neil Hubbard, and drummer Jon Hiseman (formerly of Colosseum). Kök was known for its intricate arrangements, powerful vocals, and fusion of jazz harmonies with funk rhythms.

Their debut album, released in 1974, received critical acclaim but failed to achieve significant commercial success. Despite a strong live following, the band struggled to find a consistent audience and faced internal pressures. Kök disbanded in 1976, with members pursuing individual projects and contributing to other bands. While their time together was relatively short, Kök's contribution to the jazz-funk genre is remembered for its musical sophistication and the talent of its individual members. Post disbandment, their music has experienced renewed interest through sampling and retrospective re-releases.
