Congratulations (album)

Congratulations is the second studio album by American psychedelic rock band MGMT, released on April 13, 2010, by Columbia Records. Following the massive success of their debut album Oracular Spectacular, Congratulations marked a deliberate shift in sound for MGMT, moving away from the synth-pop sensibilities of their earlier work towards a more psychedelic and experimental direction.

The album was produced by Sonic Boom (Peter Kember) of Spacemen 3. Its recording took place primarily at Allaire Studios in Shokan, New York. The album's title reflects the band's mixed feelings about the sudden fame and attention they received after Oracular Spectacular.

Congratulations received generally positive reviews from critics, although it polarized some fans due to its departure from the band's earlier sound. Despite this, it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album spawned several singles, including "Flash Delirium" and "Siberian Breaks."

Notable tracks include the aforementioned singles as well as "It's Working," "Song for Dan Treacy," and the nine-minute-long "Siberian Breaks," which is considered a centerpiece of the album. The album's artwork features a stylized depiction of a griffin.
