Techo International Airport (Cambodia)
Techo International Airport (TIA), also known as Techo Airport, is a new airport under construction in Cambodia, located approximately 20 kilometers south of Phnom Penh. It is intended to replace the existing Phnom Penh International Airport as the country's primary and largest international airport.
The airport is being developed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co Ltd (CAIC), a joint venture between the Cambodian government and Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC). The project is a significant undertaking, designed to handle a substantial increase in passenger and cargo traffic compared to the current airport.
The initial phase of the airport is expected to handle millions of passengers annually, with plans for further expansion to accommodate projected future growth. The airport's design incorporates modern aviation technology and infrastructure, including a long runway capable of handling large aircraft, modern terminal buildings, and advanced air traffic control systems.
The development of Techo International Airport is a key component of Cambodia's strategy to enhance its connectivity, boost tourism, and facilitate economic growth. The new airport is anticipated to provide a significant upgrade to the country's aviation infrastructure and contribute to its overall development. The name "Techo" is a honorific title, usually given to high-ranking government officials, in this case the Prime Minister of Cambodia.
